Storing Your Boat

Are you thinking of storing your boat away for the winter weather? You’ll want to make sure you properly prepare your boat for storage so that when you use it again it is in great shape and ready for the water. This will help make it much easier next season to prepare your boat for use! Whether you’ll be storing it in an indoor facility or at an outdoor parking lot, you’ll want to follow some tips on the best storage procedures.

Here are a few more tips for storing your boat. So follow these tips and your boat will be in great shape for next season!

-Wipe down the boat to remove salt water and other grim. The salt water hurts the exterior of the boat and can result in a mess when you are ready to get back out on the water.

-Leave interior doors and lockers open so the air can circulate

-Open all drains to prevent damage from freezing                            ­

-Remove electronics, food items, and fabrics. Food items will attract all unwanted pests to feast while your boat sits.

-Change your oil filter and oil

-Boats left for extended periods should be stored with a full tank of gas and an appropriate fuel stabilizer

-Plug pipes / openings with bronze wool (prevents rodents)

-Refresh the coolant system. Old coolant and other fluids hold dirt in the chambers and will clog pipes if left to sit.

-Spray with fogging oil

-Loosen or remove drive belts

-Disconnect battery. As a result you will have a fast launch at the first sign of the water thawing

-Attach a proper winter cover to keep all your hard work protected from the detrimental weather.
