Outdoor Recreation

Quittie Creek Nature Park offers a serene space for a walk or bike ride. The 36-acre park contains quiet woodland along Quittapahilla Creek—perfect for getting outside after a long workday. And it’s not just the fair weather months that you can take advantage of this space; you can have fun here all year long. Even when there is snow on the ground, feel free to pack your snowshoes! However, the park isn’t just about nature. It’s a portal into Annville’s rich past. Hikers can come across five lime kilns, remnants from the time limestone was mined and transformed into lime for fertilizers and cement. Nearby, a brass marker signifies the site of a water-powered mill that processed this lime. Vestiges of a bygone era include an old weir dam, which once directed water flow through a water wheel pump house, showcasing the region’s intricate relationship with water and industry. You have to see it for yourself!

Another nearby adventure is Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon. Home to the oldest existing transportation tunnel in the United States, the park offers visitors a journey back in time to the era of the Union Canal. What once was part of the Union Canal, linking Harrisburg and Reading, is now 5/8 of a mile of what remains of the original canal. Spanning 109 acres, this historical gem not only provides a look into the 19th-century canal system but also offers scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. Guests can stroll along the towpaths, observe wildlife around the canal, and enjoy picnics in the park’s designated areas. This is a neat site to check out, especially during Union Canal Days!

Add to this the aromatic Hershey’s Chocolate World, where you can partake in a chocolate-making tour and stock up on all your favorite goodies.

A trip to the Hershey Gardens with its beautiful blooms would make for the perfect afternoon. The gardens were originally conceived as a gift to the community and a tribute to the town’s legacy. Over the years, it has blossomed into a spectacular assortment of themed gardens, including the magnificent rose garden showcasing more than 3,500 rose bushes.
